6 Ways PRP Can Enhance Your Skin And Appearance

As I’ve touched on in earlier blogs, Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) is more than just a successful tool for treating acute or chronic pain. PRP is quickly becoming a popular cosmetic procedure due to its simplicity and effectiveness. PRP is easy because it involves blood being drawn from a patient’s body, similar to a regular blood test. The blood is then put into a centrifuge, which separates the blood into its primary components – platelets and white blood cells, plasma, and red blood cells. After a portion of the plasma is removed, your concentrated platelets are mixed with the remaining plasma to form a platelet-rich solution that is injected where it’s needed to trigger your body’s natural healing mechanism.

Let’s take a look at 6 ways PRP can be used to enhance your skin and appearance:

1. Acne Scar Removal

Acne is the result of clogged pores, which are the natural breathing mechanism of the skin.  When pores are blocked, they can become inflamed and cause tiny pimples. When pimples burst, they leave semi-permanent scars.

PRP: Results are usually seen with just 2-3 treatments – in about one month. How long the effects last depends on each individual, but for most people, about 18 months.

2. Age Spots

If you don’t use proper skin protection from the sun all the time, you might be prone to age spots on your face, hands, and other places. Age spots are skin’s built-in protection mechanism against sun. Mostly, they protect the weaker areas of the skin from direct exposure to sun. Although, they can result from hormonal changes.

PRP: Typically 2-3 treatments are needed to see really good results. Depending on exposure to sun, age spots should not reappear unless the skin is overexposed again. Under normal exposure to the sun, you can expect the effects to last about 12 months.

3. Large Pores

Under hot conditions, dirt is likely to accumulate on the skin, producing sebum. The more sebum produced clogs the pores become more and they swell up and look visibly larger than usual. Cheap medications often make the situation worse.

PRP: Patients will see results from the first session and it should last about 3 months. After that, touch up treatments might be necessary. For skin care, regular care is the key. (Beware that swelling and bruising may last 3-4 days before revealing good healthy skin.)

4. Wrinkles

One of the secrets to healthy-looking skin after age 50 is PRP.

PRP: Because PRP is 100% natural, the results look perfectly natural too, never weird – unlike Botox and other treatments. PRP is safe, with no dangerous side-effects to fear. When the PRP solution is injected it sends a false healing signal to the skin, triggering collagen production that aggressively produces new layers of skin tissue. Terrific results usually take 3-4 treatments, but follow-ups might be necessary. Smoother skin should last one year, but it could be shorter depending on the patient’s natural aging cycle.

5. Eye Bags

These are generally formed from strain around the eyes due to lack of sleep. The strain in your eyes takes away the blood and nutrients supply from nearby areas, mainly under your eyes. The skin loses its elasticity and forms these bags.

PRP: One of the most effective treatments for eye bags – superior to fillers and botox. If you’re under 30 and have a controlled sleep pattern, you will see results starting from day 1 and it will last for years. Others might take a couple days to see change. But results are pretty much assured with at least 3 weeks of treatment. You’ll see a drastic reduction in your eye bags. Follow-up treatments will be required after 6-12 months.

6. Dull Skin

Every 28 days new skin cells replace the old ones. But sometimes due to our sleeping habits, stress and aging, the turnaround time gets longer. More and more dead skin cells pile up and the remaining “alive” skin cells are barely breaking through.

PRP: Since it contains all the growth hormones you need for triggering tissue regeneration, collagen production and cell differentiation, PRP is a perfect “dull skin killer.” 2-3 treatments can shorten the skin’s turnover rate to a few days and make skin look visibly younger and natural. Generally, treatments last about 6-12 months, followed by touch ups.

PRP helps you get and maintain a healthy and younger appearance by harnessing the natural forces that are at play in your body. The magic of PRP is that it’s fast-acting, safe and natural – a pleasing combination.
